Asheville’s free poetry festival ASHEVILLE WORDFEST (May 4 – May 9, 2010) presents something for kids and families at Spellbound on Saturday May 8th at 10:00am.
The Curtain Call Collective, a fantastic troupe of talented kids, will perform poems and skits based on the works of Shel Silverstein, including The Giving Tree. All kids are invited to join in! E-mail the director, Chris Martin, to sign up if you would like to participate. You can perform songs, skits, poems, and any other 3-5 minute act. Or you can ust sit in the audience and watch!
Opening for the Collective will be Vixi Jil Glenn, a storyteller and poet from Asheville, North Carolina. Her stories draw on ancient legends, Jack Tales and create a delightful mix of Appalachian, Celtic and Scandinavian folklore. She has performed for the YMCA, Riverlink and other organizations. A student of renowned Folkteller Connie Regan Blake, VixiJil reaches into the realms of faeryland and memory as well as her family’s rich history of storytelling for her material. Musical, lively and engaging, VixiJil brings the mountains to life with her rhymes and tales.
Fun for the whole family! Free. All ages.
