ROYAL is our book club for adult Readers of Young Adult Literature. No need to join ahead of time or RSVP; anyone over 18 who has read the book is welcome to come and discuss it! Book club selections are always 20% off until the day of the meeting. Generally we meet the first Sunday of the month at 4pm, with exceptions for holiday weekends.

Please note that we’re meeting on the 2nd Sunday in September, due to Labor Day weekend!

By a unanimous vote, we decided to read the next two books in the Hunger Games trilogy for our September and October meetings. Catching Fire is not yet in paperback, but as a ROYAL Book Club selection it is 20% off.

Incarceron is a prison so vast that it contains not only cells, but also metal forests, dilapidated cities, and vast wilderness. Her family lives in constant fear of being discovered by the authorities and sent back to the poverty they left behind in Mexico. Can Tyler and Mari find a way to be friends despite their differences?
In a novel full of hope, but no easy answers, Julia Alvarez weaves a beautiful and timely story that will stay with readers long after they finish it.

Author Allan Wolf will read from his novel in verse Zane’s Trace, winner of the North Carolina Young Adult Book Award and newly available in paperback for $7.99. 

 The book is narrated by a troubled teen who believes he can control the outcome of events by writing on his bedroom walls.  Wolf will read from the book and share the story of how he discovered the power of words by writing on his own bedroom walls as a kid.  Complete with photographs.  Q & A and book signing to follow. 

Wolf’s novel and his presentation are both meant for tweens, teens, and adults.  Content may not be appropriate for children under ten years of age. 

In honor of Zane Guesswind, the book’s narrator, we will be giving away Sharpie markers and serving his favorite refreshments (Mountain Dew and Pop Tarts).

Asheville native Hope Larson will be available to sign copies of her new graphic novel Mercury at Spellbound from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, April 17th, and will give us a peek into her creative process. A piece of original artwork from the book will be given as a door prize!
