Saturday mornings in June and July, Spellbound is happy to present Sonia Brooks, The Moozic Lady, and her Tap-n-Shake music program for preschoolers in a special summer workshop series. Preregistration by phone, email, or in person is required, as space is limited. You may register for June or July session or both. Suggested for children 6 and under. Free.

About Sonia

Sonia Brooks has been teaching music to young children since 1994.  She plays guitar and sings traditional folk music and original folk songs to teach rhythm training, as she fully engages children in musical play.

Copies of Sonia’s brand-new CD will be available for sale at each workshop.

Rhythm sticks and shakers are provided for each child at any event. Join in the fun while experiencing the wonderful benefits of rhythm training and interactive folk music!

Spellbound’s ROYAL Book Club is hosting a Hunger Games party prior to the midnight premiere of the movie. After the party, many of us will reconvene at the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 (on Long Shoals Road) for the midnight premiere showing. Buying a ticket well in advance is strongly suggested, as at least one show has already sold out.

Local author Megan Shepherd will do a reading of the first chapter of The Hunger Games to set the mood. (Megan was also an extra in the movie and will be attending our party with other local extras.)

At 11pm, we will depart from Spellbound and caravan to the Biltmore Grande for the midnight screening of The Hunger Games.

This will be an all-ages, family friendly party, although of course due to the subject matter the movie will be most appropriate for teens and adults.

A WRINKLE IN TIME 50th Anniversary Party

Celebrate this landmark book with a party that will include viewing of a bookstore-only event live streaming from NYC featuring readings by celebrity authors, including Rebecca Stead (author of the Newbery-winning When You Reach Me, an homage to Wrinkle) and Asheville native Hope Larson, whose graphic novel adaptation of Wrinkle comes out this fall.

Art with Heart Valentine Art Workshop

A joint event brought to you by Spellbound, ZaPow, and the Asheville Parks, Rec & Cultural Arts Department.
The Easel Rider Mobile Arts Lab will be parked in front of the store and local professional artists will be on hand to help kids create their own fabulous valentine art, be it old school valentine cards or whatever they can think of. (Please note: this will be a very “boy-friendly” event, per one of our art instructors!)

Kids can have their work featured on the front gallery wall along with the ZaPow artists’ “Art with Heart Show”  or they can take their art home with them.
